ATTENDEE INFORMATION!

Pre-Conference Session on Friday, November 1, 2024

The pre-conference this year will be a full day, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Beginning at 8:00 am “Field of Dreams Farm2School: Build it and They Will Come, One Small Step at a Time” will be presented by Barbara Shaw, DESE Food/Nutrition, Lisa Lauer, Dept. of Health & Human Services, Emma Hohenberger, Mo Beef Kids, and Lori Danella, FSD, Lee’s Summit R7 Schools.

Join them to learn, celebrate and inspire the movement of bringing healthy, local, sustainably grown food to the minds and plates of our students in Missouri.  In this session you will learn about procurement for local foods, how to get started, learn best practices and leave with action items to start your own program. You will hear from Mo Beef Kids whose mission is to provide more beef in school lunch programs while educating students about farm families and how beef is a nutrition powerhouse for student’s bodies.  Information will be provided on local grant opportunities, procurement examples, recipes for local foods, Farm to School Q&A resource, crediting local beef, etc.  The highlight of the session will be a Tour of the College of the Ozarks with transportation and lunch provided during the tour.  “Hard Work U” as the college is known provides dining experiences with work done by students and products grown on campus.  Their farm to table dining experience is like no other.

You will return to the Chateau on the Lake for the afternoon session where Institute of Child Nutrition training staff will introduce Menus of Flavor, Latin American”, a four-hour, instructor-led, hands-on training focused on global regions’ healthful and flavorful foods. During each training, participants will recognize the benefits of scratch cooking, using the ingredients and flavors commonly found in the Latin America. Participants will identify basic culinary skills and apply the skills during the hands-on culinary lab, preparing meals using regional recipes, further reinforcing the learning. After the training, participants will be able to recognize the benefits of scratch cooking, use global ingredients, and apply various culinary skills and competencies to their daily work.

The cost will be $90.00 per person, limited to the first forty (40) attendees that register.  You do not have to attend the entire conference but it is strongly recommended.  To further encourage MSNA members to attend both the pre-conference and the full conference, DESE Food/Nutrition will be offering scholarships to attendees to offset the cost of registration for the pre-con, the full conference and lodging.  Details will follow so check back frequently to see how to apply!!
